PROGRAMME:
Rossini: Barber of Seville Overture Mozart: Concerto for Two Pianos, K. 365 in E-flat Major Sibelius: Symphony No. 5, Op. 82 in E- flat Major

Prepare for an unforgettable night of musical brilliance as Leon Bosch graces the conductor’s stand to guide us through an evening of orchestral treasures. Rossini’s Barber of Seville Overture sets a rollicking pace, sizzling with the Great Man from Pesaro’s signature crescendos and joyous, unbridled momentum. Under Maestro Bosch’s distinctive baton, the orchestra will capture the operatic flair and comedic spirit of this beloved curtain-raiser, instantly transporting the audience into a world of rollicking theatricality and delight.

Next is a commanding exhibition of dazzling keyboard artistry as the acclaimed Xin Wang and Florian Koltun piano duo take centre stage. Written by Mozart to perform with his sister Nannerl, this celebrated double piano concerto is a sparkling showstopper, setting the stage for two virtuosi to pit themselves against each other in spirited, fun-filled badinage, as they spin complex melodies that flow seamlessly from one soloist to the next. Wang and Koltun, honoured across the globe for their flawless instinctual harmony and rich, evocative expression, will bring this spirited musical chess match to life, highlighting the runaway brilliance and sheer charm of Mozart’s genius.

The evening culminates on a high plateau with Mozart’s consummate Symphony No 39, the third to last in a string of unrivalled symphonic masterpieces by the legendary Austrian composer. Written during a period of white-hot creativity, the E-flat Major Symphony is a work of supreme compositional brilliance and metaphysical discourse. From its grand, measured introduction to its fiery, adrenaline-charged finale – itself a miracle of contrapuntal composition created from the briefest of phrases – it represents the absolute pinnacle of Classical symphonic art. The orchestra will immerse you in the rich textures and soaring harmonies of this quicksilver piece, showcasing why it remains a cornerstone of the orchestral repertoire. This energising program ends the season on a high, sending you out into the night feeling spiritually and emotionally exhilarated.
